2 Year-Old Child In Car As Driver Arrested For Felony DWI On Route 9: NYSP

CORTLANDT, NY — A Yonkers man was arrested in the Town of Cortlandt for potentially putting the life of a child at risk, according to state police.

On June 28, around 2:45 a.m., New York State Police said that troopers from Cortlandt stopped a vehicle traveling south on Route 9, in the Town of Cortlandt, for traffic violations.

While speaking with the driver, 34-year-old Martinez Gonzalez, of Yonkers, the troopers noticed signs of intoxication, and he was administered field sobriety tests, according to NYSP.

The troopers say a 2-year-old child was also in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Martinez Gonzalez was arrested and taken to SP Cortlandt for processing, where he was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.14 percent, police said.

State police said the child was turned over to a sober party.

Martinez Gonzalez was charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger; misdemeanor driving while intoxicated with a BAC of 0.08 percent or more; and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.

He was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandt Court and released on his own recognizance.
