Sold: Estate In Peekskill Sets New Residential Property Sale Record At $2.95M

PEEKSKILL, NY — The sale of an estate on the Hudson River has shattered one key previous record.

A historic estate at 1 St. Mary's Convent in Peekskill has sold for $2.95 million, setting a new record for the highest residential sale recorded in the Peekskill Multiple Listing Service (MLS), according to information provided by Andrew Rogovic, with One Rock's White Plains office.

A review of MLS records dating back to 2000 shows the previous second-highest sale was $905,000 in January 2025. The $2.95 million sale of 1 St. Mary's Convent more than triples that figure, establishing a new benchmark for Peekskill real estate, according to the information shared about the transaction.

The 4.7-acre property is described as one of Peekskill's most distinctive estates. The sale was presented as a sign of continued movement in Peekskill's luxury real estate market, tied to the city's Hudson River location, historic architecture, arts and dining scene, and proximity to New York City.

The home was originally built as the pastor's residence for the Community of St. Mary, identified as the first Anglican/Episcopalian sisterhood in the United States. The residence, also known as St. Joseph's House, was designed in 1902 by architect Henry Martin Congdon in the Gothic Revival style.

According to the source material, the property remained connected to the order until 1985, when Peekskill native Dr. John McGurty and his wife, Kathy, bought the home. Over the next four decades, the McGurtys preserved its historic character while updating the property for modern living.

The residence includes five bedrooms and five-and-a-half baths. Among its most notable features is the original 1906 chapel preserved within the home, along with historic stonework and wood carvings, scenic balconies, extensive grounds, an inground heated pool, a private gated entrance and Hudson River views.
