Arrest In Daylight Fatal Shooting In Peekskill

Peekskill Police Chief Don Halmy praised the work of all the officers who worked on the case, plus other agencies' contributions.

PEEKSKILL, NY — An 18-year-old Peekskill resident is in custody, accused of killing a Bronx man in Peekskill three weeks ago. Demetrius Bogan has been sent to Westchester County Jail.

At 2:30 p.m. July 13, the Peekskill police responded to the area of 1245 Park St. for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, 22-year-old Khalil Lyons, lying on the ground with what proved to be a single, fatal gunshot wound to the chest.

A man was reported to have been observed fleeing the scene after arguing with the victim.

After an exhaustive three-week investigation by the Peekskill Police Department, Bogan was arrested and charged Friday with Lyons' murder. He was arraigned in Peekskill City Court Friday afternoon.

Peekskill Police Chief Don Halmy praised the work of all the officers who worked on this case, especially Det. Sgt. Jack Galusha and the detectives under his charge who worked tirelessly to make this arrest happen. He also expressed his gratitude to the Westchester County Department of Public Safety and the New York State Police who both sent officers to assist immediately after this crime was reported, as well as the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office who worked alongside this department during the investigation.
