Arrest in Sunday Park Street Shooting

Peekskill resident Janeil Myke is being held without bail.

Peekskill resident Janeil Myke faces a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Stephen Agosto on Sunday night in Peekskill.

Police allege that Myke, 24, shot Agosto several times on Park Street.

Police on patrol heard the shots, found Agosto, and had the 22-year-old transported to New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In a Wednesday press conference, Peekskill Police Chief Eric Johansen said Myke was identified as a suspect on Tuesday. Police had his home on Rolling Way in Peekskill was under surveillance, and when he was seen leaving he was taken into custody after a brief pursuit. He is being held without bail.

โ€œI would first like to recognize the outstanding police work on the part of all of the police officers, detectives, and supervisors from the Peekskill Police Department who have worked on this case non-stop since its inception,โ€ Police Chief Eric Johansen said, according to the Peekskill Daily Voice. โ€œIt is because of their commitment to justice that this case was solved so quickly and a violent criminal was removed from the streets without further incident.โ€

โ€œThis case is a classic example of the type of good police work that results from cooperation between multiple agencies and departments,โ€ Johansen said.
