Assemblywoman Galef Statement in Response to October 9th Article

Assemblywoman Galef statement in response to article on Jan Peak Homeless Shelter

I wanted to clarify the Patch article posted on October 9th about the relocation of the Jan Peak shelter.

“When I learned that there was state grant money available for organizations that provide community-based human services, I reached out to CHHOP to gauge their interest in a $25,000 grant for the work their organization does. When CHHOP applied for this grant in early June, they discussed some “predevelopment” costs and the potential of finding a new location, as well as new refrigerators and other kitchen equipment for their food pantry. I had no knowledge of the location of any new building site when the grant proposal was submitted. While I support organizations that provide food and housing for those in need, I understand many members of the community are upset with the proposed location change. In my capacity as a state Assemblywoman, however, I do not have any role in the relocation of the shelter,” stated Assemblywoman Sandy Galef
