Back to School Rally is ON Today - Rain or Shine

(Peekskill, NY)— Rain or shine, the community is in for a treat today with a Back to School Rally! In an effort to give back to the community that it loves and is a part of, the Mount Olivet Baptist Church (MOBC) is hosting a Back-to-School Rally on Friday, August 21 , from 4 pm to 7 pm, at The Summit on 1432 Park Street in Peekskill ( accross the street from MOBC). School supplies, music, face painting, food, health vendors, community vendors, prizes and more will be available to those who attend. The entire Back to School Rally is FREE and open to the public.

The rally is the brainchild of MOBC’s dynamic senior pastor, Rev. Dr. Robert E. Young, to help our youth start the school year on the right foot while providing resources for their parents to fulfill that goal.

“I was deeply moved by God to help alleviate the struggle and strain associated with back to school shopping,” Dr. Young says. “As a parent of small children, I know too well the financial stress of purchasing school supplies. I believe the church is God’s command center for outreach and relief.”

MOBC has wide-ranging community support in this endeavor including donations from local businesses and not for profit agencies alike. Among the generous donors are Wheelabrator of Westchester and The Children’s Village. A diverse, group of local agencies will offer activities, information displays and giveaways. Of special note, the local Nu Psi Zeta graduate chapter is extremely happy to partner with Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with their Back to School Rally. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority in Peekskill has provided book bags for over 20 years to the Peekskill school district to help promote the development of basic learning skills for our youth by providing essential tools for learning and development of the mind. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is a nonprofit, international organization. The Z-Pack It UP Z-HOPE program provides book bags filled with school supplies to children in need.

“A special thanks to Minister Tuesday Paige McDonald for her leadership [in helming the event],” Dr. Young says. “We believe that this rally not only will provide resources and supplies-- but a lasting hope that Peekskill so desperately needs.”
