Campaign Sign Controversy in Peekskill

Mayor Frank Catalina wants a bi-partisan stand against people stealing candidates' signs and offers rewards for info on who's doing it

Peekskill Mayor Frank Catalina spurred a conversation about campaign signs on the Peekskill Community Network Facebook page when he posted this comment Thursday:

Desperate people do desperate things, i guess. Our campaign signs are coming down at an alarming rate and are either being destroyed or just disappearing so, effective immediately, our campaign will offer and pay a $500 reward to anyone who has information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone destroying or taking down ANY campaign signs or banners of ANY CANDIDATE. If you have proof that any CANDIDATE is doing it or paying to have it done or instructing anyone to do it, the reward will be $2,500. Two teenaged girls have been photographed within the hour in the washington franklin smith and simpson areas and will be arrested when the police get the photos. My campaign will prosecute this to the fullest extent of the law and we urge the Martin campaign to join in this effort deploring the destruction or vandalism of ANY campaign signs.
