City of Peekskill Residents: Our Mayor and Common Council want to make sure your voice is heard; we seek your participation in this important discussion. On March 31, 2021, the Cannabis Law in New York State was enacted by Governor Andrew Cuomo. This NEW law legalizes recreational marijuana and can allow newly formed marijuana retail stores to sell marijuana products, also known as dispensaries, as well as newly formed marijuana cafes, also known as consumption sites. New York State will issue a limited number of licenses throughout the State, with preferences to minority, veteran, and women-owned businesses. Our Peekskill zoning laws will allow these establishments to locate in all commercial zones and most manufacturing zones. In addition, this legislation enables each municipality (by December 31, 2021) to adopt a local law that prohibits dispensaries and consumption sites from locating in its community. Here is where we need your participation. Please click here for the survey.
