Clerk In Cortlandt Sold Beer To Teen: Cops

CORTLANDT, NY — A Cortlandt gas station clerk was cited recently for selling beer to a 16-year-old who was assisting Westchester County Police with alcohol compliance checks at businesses that sell alcohol, police said. It was the only one of the 17 stores that were checked.

The underage youth, under the supervision of county police, attempted to buy a six-pack of beer. He was able to purchase beer on one occasion and was turned away at the other establishments.

A summons was issued to a clerk at the Gulf station at 2701 East Main St. charging the business with Prohibited Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage to a Minor, police said.

The county police, utilizing a grant obtained by the Cortlandt Community Coalition, regularly conduct alcohol compliance checks in town to ensure that alcohol is not being sold to persons who are under 21 years of age. The compliance checks are conducted at delis, convenience stores, bars, restaurants and other locations where alcohol is for sale.

County police also conduct compliance checks to ensure that cigarettes, tobacco and e-cigarette products are not being sold to persons under age 18.

Acting Commissioner Martin McGlynn said the Westchester County Police has a longstanding partnership with the Cortlandt Community Coalition. “The coalition does tremendous work to encourage the community’s young people to make safe and healthy choices. We are proud to work with it to protect the town’s youth.”

The businesses that refused to sell to the underage youth were: Lou’s Corner Store, Frederick Street; Oregon Shell, Oregon Road; Annsville Mobil, Roa Hook Road; 123 Food Mart, Albany Post Road; Da Ro’s Deli, Albany Post Road; Post Road Deli, Albany Post Road; Montrose Deli, Kings Ferry Road; Trails End Deli, 6th Street; Oregon Citgo, Oregon Road; Mobil gas station, Crompond Road; Rock Cut Deli, Albany Post Road; Sunoco gas station, Albany Post Road, BP gas station, Albany Post Road; Shell gas station, Albany Post Road; Route 6 Mobil, East Main Street; and Angela’s Deli, Broadway.
