Cold Weather Descending On Hudson Valley

Record low temps are expected and chill will make it feel like 5 degrees at 6 a.m. Wednesday. Here are the details from the NWS.

(National Weather Service)

A cold front bringing record low temperatures is moving slowly into the Hudson Valley, pushing warm air out. Rain is expected to spread from west to east. Temperatures will be falling throughout the day.

A hazardous outlook issued for Dutchess County warns that light accumulations of snow or sleet with falling temperatures could lead to icing and hazardous travel conditions.

The rain may mix with or briefly change over to all snow before ending, the National Weather Service said. Little, if any accumulation is expected. Precipitation will end from west to east by early to mid afternoon.

Conditions will then become windy. Gusts of 30 to 40 mph are possible, especially along the coast.

"Crashing temps will result in refreeze and areas of black ice through the evening into the overnight," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

"In a repeat of the last winter weather threat, it appears to things will work against any widespread and high impact snow or ice across the region, warm air not eroding out of the region in time for the moisture to depart, dry air turning off precipitation as cold air approaches NW regions," Marra and Potter said.

Very cold temperatures are expected tonight. Lows will range from the teens to lower 20s, even along the coast and into the New York City metro area. Combined with the wind, it will feel like single digits below zero in some inland areas, to teens above zero along the coast and into the metro area.

Dry and cold conditions are expected for Wednesday with temperatures not getting out of the 30s. Winds will diminish, but it will still feel like the 20s during the warmest part of the day. Then there's the wind chill factor — that's going to make it feel like 5 degrees at 6 a.m. Wednesday.
