Coronavirus In Every Community In Westchester: County Executive

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — With 1,021 new cases of the new coronavirus confirmed overnight, Westchester County remains one of the hardest-hit counties in New York state. There have been 2,894 cases reported in the county as of Monday morning, according to state officials.

Every community in Westchester has at least one case, said County Executive George Latimer in a news briefing.

New Rochelle was the second community in the state with a case of the virus officially known as COVID-19. That was announced as the state's second case on March 3. By March 6 there were 34 cases in Westchester and by March 12, when state officials aggressively ramped up their response with a virus "containment zone" and drive-through testing center in New Rochelle, there were 121 cases.

By the time Westchester's first case had recovered enough to be taken off a ventilator, March 19, there were 798 confirmed cases in the county.

Overnight Sunday, the state's rapidly expanding testing program turned up another 1,021 positive cases in Westchester, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday morning.

"Only 22 days since that original person was identified," Latimer said. "The statistics we received today from Gov. Cuomo today indicate 2,894 cases of COVID and our first patient was March 1st. That tells you how contagious this disease is."
