Cortlandt, Peekskill Celebrate Veterans Day With Events

Sunday is the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, which marked the end of World War I.

Cortlandt and Peekskill residents and officials will celebrate Veterans Day on Sunday with events. Nov. 11 is the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, in which 16 million people died. The armistice took effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

WHEN: 10 a.m. Sunday

WHERE: Memorial Park, Peekskill, NY, located at the intersection of North Division Street and Highland Avenue

WHAT: The ceremony will honor all surviving veterans and those serving in our military today. All citizens are urged to attend to show their gratitude for a country that has never lacked young men and women who were willing to place themselves in harm’s way.

Cortlandt:

WHEN: 12:30 PM Sunday

WHERE: Muriel H. Morabito Community Center, 29 Westbrook Drive, Cortlandt Manor, NY 10567

WHAT: Supervisor Linda Puglisi and the Town Board along with the Cortlandt Hudson Valley Veterans Committee will acknowledge and thank our veterans for all they have done and continue to do for our country. The 89th Army Band, New York Guard with Commander and Conductor Captain Roy Coates will perform patriotic songs.
