Cortlandt Man Fires Rifle During Dispute

Police were called about shots fired.

CORTLANDT, NY — A 38-year-old Cortlandt man faces charges after a dispute at his residence on Dogwood Road. A report of "shots fired" sent New York state police, Westchester County police and Peekskill police to the home at 9 a.m. Oct. 5.

They said their investigation determined John J. Magner III engaged in a dispute with a party known to him at his residence, and fired two rounds from a Marlin .22 rifle.

Magner was arrested and charged with Reckless Endangerment in the 1st degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree, both class D felonies, Illegal Discharge of a Weapon, and Use of a Rifle in a Prohibited Area, both unclassified misdemeanors.

He was arraigned before the town of Cortlandt Court, and sent to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
