Death & Dying Q&A at New Peekskill Cafe

Holiday time, when families are together, may be the best time for important discussions.

A free workshop on how to talk to your loved ones about death, dying, and long term planning will be held at Big Bang Coffee Roasters from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 22.

It is hosted by Michelle Carter Verna of New York Funeral Consulting and Al Pucci of New York Life.

While death, dying and planning aren’t topics people talk about often, Verna said that holiday time, when families are together, is the perfect time for important family discussions.

“It’s a happy time of year, but for many, it’s also one of those increasingly rare times when everyone is together at once, “ Carter Verna said. “The best time to have family discussions is before a crisis arises. “

Verna and Pucci will speak about the basics of funeral and long-term financial planning, and strategies for how to talk about it with family. The second half of the evening will be a “Death Café” experience and open discussion about death, dying, and planning.

Through New York Funeral Consulting, Carter Verna walks families through the funeral planning process so they can make intelligent decisions instead of emotional ones. She is a third generation funeral director but has no affiliations with any funeral homes. A consumer advocate, she does not accept referral fees or commissions from funeral homes: her recommendations are influenced only by a firm’s reputation and price.

Al Pucci is a financial planning and insurance expert with a strong focus on estate planning, life insurance, and long term care.
