
12 YEAR-OLD NATIONALLY RANKED FENCER ORGANIZES CHARITY FENCING TOURNAMENT FOR OVER 30 BEGINNER FENCERS

March 16, 2012 – On Saturday, March 17th, 2012 beginning at 9:00 am, over 30 beginner fencers will converge at the Peekskill Fencing Center in a unique beginners-only fencing tournament where all the proceeds will go to the Conservation Fund – a prominent charitable organization dedicated to protecting Earth’s environment.

Sylvie Binder (12), who ranks among the top-ten junior fencers in her age category nationally, has organized the “Go Green” Beginners Fencing Tournament as part of her “mitzvah project” in preparation for her Bat Mitzvah at Temple Shaaray Tefila in Bedford in May, 2012.
In addition to the competitions for Y8, Y10, and Y12 kids, the event will feature an inspirational talk from former United States Olympic Fencer (and former County Legislator) John Nonna. Nonna was on the US National Fencing Team that competed at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany.
