Amy Peterson: I grew up around here, and moved back to Peekskill about a year and a half ago after spending over a decade away. I've lived and traveled all over the world but this area has always remained home to me.

Patch: What do you think is the best thing about the city?

AMY: I'd have to say that the best thing about Peekskill is that it is a microcosm of a larger city like New York but, of course, with small city charm. I meet all kinds of people here and of all ages; artists, musicians, businesspeople, politicians, academics, service men and women, and people from all over the world too.  It’s nice to get to know such creative, interesting and accomplished folks in an environment like Peekskill where conversation feels more relaxed and personal than it might in a bustling big city.

PATCH: What’s your bar’s most popular drink?

AMY: The Peekskill Brewery's own Hop Common for sure.  It's a beer that is very accessible to people who are new to Craft Beer as well as long time Craft Beer drinkers who enjoy a well-made session brew.  Hop Common is great on its own and pairs beautifully with many of The Brewery's popular menu items.

PATCH: What’s your craziest bar story?

AMY: One time a group of my young regular customers burst into the bar, only this night they were in full Mariachi garb right down to sombreros, maracas, and guitars.  They played a loud and lively rendition of a classic Mexican tune, downed a shot of tequila, and then ran out of the bar as quickly as they had come in.  I found out later that they had lost a bet with some friends and had visit every bar in town with this routine as their consequence.

PATCH: What’s the best thing about your bar/restaurant?

AMY: The best thing about the Peekskill Brewery is that it is a one-of-a-kind in the area.  As a Brewpub we serve beer and food that has been prepared entirely in house. The use of seasonal and locally sourced ingredients further enhances the unique experience that patrons enjoy here.

PATCH: What is your personal favorite drink?

AMY: My favorite drink is called "The Cure."  This beer cocktail includes: The Peekskill Brewery Cream Ale, ginger liqueur, and fresh lemon juice.  It’s light, bright and totally refreshing on a hot summer day.

PATCH: Any advice for customers on getting your attention on a busy night?

AMY: My favorite is the subtle approach; eye contact and maybe a little head nod or smile will do.  I'll say "Be right with you" and then give you my undivided attention as soon as possible.  I have had people snap their fingers at me before.  Let's just say this technique gets my attention but it certainly doesn't get you a drink any faster.

PATCH: In your opinion, what attributes does it take to make a great bartender?

AMY: I think to be a great bartender you have to genuinely enjoy people, be sensitive and empathetic, and smile a whole lot.  Anyone can learn how to make a drink but, to make people feel welcomed, help them find their perfect beer or meal, and have them leave feeling more fulfilled than when they walked in takes compassion.
