Google Hosts Workshop to Help Peekskill Businesses Get Online

PEEKSKILL, NY — Google hosted a free workshop in Peekskill Tuesday to help small businesses get online. State Senator Terrence Murphy was on hand to help Google representatives talk to small businesses about connecting with customers.

The workshop took place in Peekskill’s Dramatic Hall in Peekskill Central Market. Attendees at the hands-on workshop learned how get on Google Search and Maps for free and how to promote their business with a free website and advertising through Google.

“Local businesses keep our communities strong. Small businesses that take full advantage of the Internet are three times more likely to create new jobs and experience revenue growth that’s nearly four times as high as the previous year. Google wants to help small businesses expand their reach online and support them as they continue to grow and shape the economy here in Peekskill,” said Carley Graham Garcia, Head of New York External Affairs in a press release about the program.

Google officials said four in five consumers use search engines to find information about local businesses, but 47 percent of US small businesses don’t have a website and only 37 percent have claimed or updated their business information on a search engine.

“I was thrilled to take part in today’s event and get a firsthand look at how Google is helping small businesses in Peekskill achieve more,” said State Senator Terrence Murphy. “Building a strong online presence is crucial for small businesses as they try to expand and reach more customers. By giving these businesses the tools and training they need to get online, Google is ensuring they can continue to support the Peekskill economy for years to come.”
