Harckham Welcomes Astorino to State Senate Race
"I have been keeping my promise to work hard for all of the residents of the 40th Senate District," said Harckham.

New York State Senator Pete Harckham issued the following statement today in response to Rob Astorino’s formal announcement of his campaign for the 40th Senate District seat:
“I welcome Rob Astorino’s candidacy for the New York State Senate. In 2018, however, I was elected to the State Senate because voters rejected Donald Trump’s divisive and reckless politics. And I am confident that voters will send me back to Albany in November because they are even more ready this year to say ‘no’ to Trump and surrogates like his close friend Rob Astorino.
“Across my Senate District I am still deeply involved with the relief efforts regarding the devastation from the coronavirus pandemic, so I will be continuing to focus on safeguarding and helping our residents for now. But I am confident that my accomplishments in the State Senate will reflect my success in providing resources and assistance to the residents of the 40th District.

“My first term in the State Senate has been very productive for the residents of the Hudson Valley. I secured record-high funding for our schools without raising taxes, passed critical legislation to protect our environment and helped to deliver over $8 million in state-funded infrastructure investments to municipalities in every corner of the 40th Senate District. I also helped provide vital funding to our veterans, seniors and first responders.
“Today I am proud to be part of a Senate Majority that has moved New York forward by passing long-stalled legislation protecting reproductive healthcare and adult victims of childhood abuse, while also enacting common sense gun safety measures and making election voting easier and more accessible.

“And as chair of the Senate Committee on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse I doubled treatment times, reduced costs and eliminated barriers to life-saving treatment. Today, New York is now leading the nation in the fight against opioid abuse.
“I have been keeping my promise to work hard for all of the residents of the 40th Senate District, and during this campaign I will continue to do so.”
