Hen Hud Grads Share Lessons on College Life

Hendrick Hudson High School Graduates Return to Share College Advice with Current Seniors

How do you balance playing a sport and completing schoolwork? How do different meal plans work? And what are those shared bathrooms really like?

These were some of the questions posed by current seniors to a panel of recent Hendrick Hudson High School graduates who stopped by last week to share helpful advice about college life.

A panel of alumni, representing a wide variety of colleges, visited seniors in their Economics or Participation in Government classes throughout the day. Colleges represented included Duke University, Boston College, SUNY New Paltz and LIM College, among others, and included schools of varying sizes and settings.

Organized by the high school guidance department, the visit was designed to help current seniors gain a clearer picture of what college life will look like. “College is right around the corner for our seniors,” said guidance counselor Jessica Downey. “This was a great opportunity for them to hear, directly from recent Hen Hud graduates, about some of the details.”

The alumni panelists discussed topics such as roommate selection, time management, study habits, class size, how to handle getting sick while at school, and holding down a job.

“We were so excited to bring back recent alumni to speak about their college experiences,” said guidance counselor Diana Balsamo. “I think the day was very successful and that the shared insights and words of wisdom from our recent grads were well received by our seniors.”
