Hen Hud Hosts Annual Jack McGuire Holiday Basketball Tournament
Thursday-Friday event memorializes a student lost to leukemia

On Thursday, December 11, and Friday, December 12, the Hendrick Hudson High School Athletic Department will host its 7th annual Jack McGuire Holiday Basketball Tournament in varsity boys’ basketball.
Jack McGuire was a Frank G. Lindsey School student (in the Hendrick Hudson School District) who passed away in 2007 after a brave fight against leukemia. Jack’s passion was basketball. Now, in what would be Jack’s senior year, many of Jack’s friends are student-athletes on the varsity basketball team. Jack would be the first tell them his message, “The will inside of us has no measure—play like a champion today.”
On Thursday, the schedule will be as follows:

6:15 p.m.- Roosevelt High School vs. Hen Hud High School
The tournament will be highlighted on Friday by a 3-on-3 tournament in which all students in grades 5 and up are invited to participate. Registration will take place at the door, and play is slated for 5 p.m. All players who participate in Friday’s 3-on-3 contest will receive one free raffle ticket that could win a pair of tickets to a New York Knicks or Brooklyn Nets home game.

All 3-on-3 players will receive a commemorative t-shirt, and the suggested donation is $10 per student. All proceeds go to the Jack McGuire Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is awarded annually to a Hen Hud senior.
Friday will also be the second round of the high school tournament. Hen Hud will be playing in the 7 p.m. game, in a matchup to be determined, while the other game on Friday will begin at 5 p.m.
This year the Hen Hud Athletic Department and the boys basketball team will be honoring Jack with a special ceremony just prior to the 7 p.m. game on Friday; all are invited to come out and honor Jack McGuire. Athletic Director Tom Baker is very excited: “The Jack McGuire Tournament each year is a highlight in our community. I look forward to be able to celebrate, and honor, the life of Jack McGuire in a way that he truly would love!”
