Hen Hud Scores at Statewide Business Leadership Conference

Students are heading to FBLA Nationals

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) held their state leadership conference April 15-17, 2015 in Rochester, NY. It was the most successful trip yet for FBLA participants from Hendrick Hudson High School, said faculty advisor Meg Jandrasits. The State Leadership Conference is designed to bring FBLA students from across the state together for workshops and competition across written, skilled based events and presentations. Nine students from Hendrick Hudson and Ms. Jandrasits attended the conference and competed against other schools in New York State. “Our chapter won 1st place in the State President’s Award for Community Service which we worked on throughout the school year,” Jandrasits said with pride.

FBLA is a national organization, represented in every state, with more than 215,000 members. The purpose of FBLA is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development problems.

In Rochester, several students placed in their competitions. Hendrick Hudson won 1st place in the Entrepreneurship competition which is a two-part event -- a test on Entrepreneurship and an impromptu speaking presentation to a panel of judges on a case relating to Entrepreneurship. The Entrepreneurship team was composed of Emily Barthelmes, Jen Chan and Deepa Mistry.

In Desktop Publishing, also a two-part event, the team needed to create a marketing piece with business cards, signs, brochures and advertisements using desktop publishing software. They then took a test on Desktop Publishing.

Jazz Munitz placed 4th in Spreadsheet Applications, which was a two-part skill-based event. Jazz was given one hour to create three tasks in Microsoft Excel. He also took a test on spreadsheets in Rochester. Emily Barthelmes placed 4th in Accounting, which was a 100- question test given at the state leadership conference.
