On November 19, Hendrick Hudson High School Business Law students traveled to Stamford, Conn., to see a taping of “The People’s Court.” The afternoon reality court TV series features Judge Marian Milian presiding over the courtroom and hearing civil cases involving contract law.
Accompanied by Mrs. Maura Koch, Ms. Gloria Flick, and Ms. Sharon Vigliotti, the students sat as court observers and witnessed several different civil cases. The students were very much a part of the set as the TV cameras filmed both litigants and audience as the cases were heard. After hearing the cases, Judge Milian met with the students for a photo op.
Cases on “The People’s Court” are real and the judgments are binding on the litigants. The students were familiar with most of the courtroom proceedings after studying then in class since September. The episodes will be aired on TV in the spring of 2015. Visiting courtrooms and “The People’s Court” enriches the law experience for students studying Business Law. This fun and exciting trip is an annual tradition.
