A homeless man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a Christmas Day stabbing in a Peekskill deli.

Antonio Alvarez, 49, was in a deli on South Street at about 10 p.m. Dec. 25, 2018 with several other men when an argument started. Alvarez stabbed one of them in the neck with a knife. He underwent emergency surgery and survived, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. said.

Alvarez, who did not have a permanent address and was homeless at the time of the incident, pleaded guilty in August to Assault in the First Degree, a class B violent felony. ADA Brian Bendish of the Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
