Honor Firefighters Who Died in 1918 Peekskill Blaze

Cortlandt Hook & Ladder Co. No.1 invites the public to attend the annual memorial service at 7p.m. Aug. 1 at the Firemen’s Memorial Park on John Walsh Boulevard.
Those men were:

The fire was in the Fleischmann Manufacturing Company grain warehouse. One of its 30-foot high by 2-foot thick exterior walls fell onto the firemen, burying them, according to the Field Guide to U.S. Monuments and Memorials. Others were injured in the fire and a company warehouseman was also killed.
In the park hangs the historic bell that sounded the alarm near midnight Aug. 1, 1918.
