Hudson Valley Hospital Center Pursuing Link to New York-Presbyterian

HVHC's Board of Directors said affiliating with the largest hospital system in the state would add resources, technology and expertise.

Hudson Valley Hospital Center is pursuing a partnership with Manhattan-based New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

โ€œThe Hudson Valley Hospital Center Board of Directors has voted unanimously to pursue an affiliation with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital subject to regulatory approval,โ€ hospital officials said in a written statement. โ€œThis new relationship would improve the already high level of healthcare practiced at our Hospital and provide HVHC with the resources, leading edge technology and medical expertise to continue serving the community for many years to come.โ€™โ€™

The hospital, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary, has expanded greatly since Peekskill Hospital bought land on route 202 in Cortlandt in the 1960s. Its most recent major expansions include its new Cancer Center, Emergency Department, Surgery Center and Patient Tower. Some of its other innovations are designed to promote nutrition for healing and wellness, including a Farmers Market, organic garden, andโ€”just last monthโ€”the Chef Peter X. Kelly Teaching Kitchen.

The move by HVHC comes on the heels of Bronxville-based Lawrence Hospitalโ€™s decision to join New York-Presbyterianโ€™s growing hospital system. Lawrence had been an affiliate member since 2005.

The re-namedย New York-Presbyterian/Lawrence announced the new relationship July 1.

โ€œWe are pleased to join with the Lawrence Hospital leadership, trustees, doctors and staff to expand services and enhance quality of care for residents of Westchester County,โ€ said Dr. Steven J. Corwin, CEO of NYP.

Edward M. Dinan, CEO of Lawrence, said in the same press release, โ€œThe Board of Governors vetted its options and reached the unanimous conclusion that joining forces with New York-Presbyterian would bring extraordinary benefits to the communities we serve. We are seeing that already in the commitment to move cardiac catheterization to Lawrence for the first time, and there is more to come.โ€

Hospital partnerships are happening all over Westchester County as small, community hospitals make connections with large, regional medical centers.

Montefiore Health System, based at the Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, took over bankrupt Sound Shore Hospital in New Rochelle in 2013, and began to establish a partnership with White Plains Hospital in early 2014.

In May, Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow announced it was exploring joining the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
