HV Man Punches Trooper After Being Released For DWI: NYSP

The man was initially stopped while driving for traffic violations, police said.

CORTLANDT, NY โ€” A northern Westchester County man was accused of punching a state trooper after being stopped for traffic violations.

The New York State Police said Bryan P. Illescas, 22, of Cortlandt, was charged Sunday with second-degree assault, a felony, and driving while intoxicated a misdemeanor.

Authorities said, shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, troopers stopped a 2008 Subaru Impreza on Lexington Avenue in the town of Cortlandt for multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.

Illescas was driving while drunk, police said, and after being processed at the Cortlandt barracks, he was released to a family member.

Police said that, while being released from custody, he punched a trooper in the face, injuring the trooper.

Illescas was arrested again and processed for assaulting an officer.

He was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandt Court and released on his own recognizance.
