I'M VOTING TO RE-ELECT JUDGE McCARTHY

I am a local lawyer and reside in the Town of Cortlandt. I have appeared before Judge McCarthy on many occasions, along with many other lawyers in our community.

Judge McCarthy is regarded by local attorneys as a very experienced and capable Judge; his reputation is that of being a fair, honest and courteous Judge who recognizes the issues. Judge McCarthy has been on the bench for sixteen years, twelve years in the Cortlandt Justice Court and four years as the Acting Judge in the Village of Buchanan.

The forthcoming election brings to mind the perennial discussions we had in law school, whether it's better to elect Judges or have them selected by the people who know them, i.e, judicial authorities and bar associations. Presently, we select our Judges via public elections; frankly, many times we don't know anything about the judicial candidate, other than he or she was rewarded with the position for faithful political party services. Nonetheless, I am most certain and confident that if judicial candidates were to be selected by their peers for their judicial expertise and experience, Judge McCarthy would receive a "very highly recommended" rating.

This is a very important vote for our community. I encourage all registered voters to get out and vote for Judge McCarthy on November 5th.
