Indian Point Schedules Siren Test
The sirens will sound at full-volume for approximately four minutes.

BUCHANAN, NY — Indian Point will be testing its emergency notification sirens. As part of the test, sirens will sound at full-volume for approximately four minutes in Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties.
The test will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, according to a spokeswoman.
Because this is only a test, the public is not required to respond during the siren sounding.

Sirens are not a signal to evacuate, a spokeswoman for Entergy said. In an actual emergency, the sires would sound to alert the public to tune into a local EAS radio or television station for important information and direction.
These stations are listed in the emergency planning booklet mailed to households and businesses in the 10-mile emergency planning zone around Indian Point.

In 2017, Entergy, New York State and Riverkeeper agreed to shut down Units 2 and 3 by 2022. Task forces and consultants are working on the difficult issues of job loss, property tax revenue loss, clean up, storage of nuclear waste and re-use of the site.
