KinoSaito Will Mark 5th Anniversary With Its Biggest Celebration Yet

CORTLANDT, NY — One of the Hudson Valley's most impressive cultural institutions will mark a milestone with an equally impressive celebration.

KinoSaito Arts Center in Verplanck will hold its fifth anniversary celebration on Sept. 19, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The public event will include Artists in Residence Open Studios, an artist talk with Jack Arthur Wood, performance sets by Naama Tsabar and Kristin Mueller, and the unveiling of a new garden installation by Jong Il Ma.

KinoSaito described the celebration as its last garden party of the year, with picnic-style food, an ice cream station from Blue Pig, and complimentary drinks featuring Teremana Tequila El Arnoldo.

Open studios are scheduled from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and will feature Artists in Residence Purvai Rai and Alina Tenser. According to KinoSaito, visitors will be able to see works in progress and speak with the artists about their practices. The center said Rai's work engages Punjab through themes including extraction, labor, memory and care, while Tenser, a 2026 Guggenheim Fellow, creates relational forms that invite somatic engagement.

Two performance sets of Naama Tsabar and Kristin Mueller's Untitled (Double Face) are scheduled for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tsabar received a Support for Artists grant from the New York State Council on the Arts through the center. Tsabar and Mueller workshopped a new performance at KINOSAITO on Tsabar's 2016 sculpture Untitled (Double Face).

"This work is a place for two separate and distinct bodies to exist, to be equal," the organization said. "A place for negotiating, for acknowledging each other, for moving in and through conflict and beauty, for creating together."

An artist talk with Wood is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. and will include a brief walkthrough of his works in the group landscape show All Day Long, curated by Katrin Lewinsky and Sarah Greenberg Morse.

The center said the display includes It's Full Of Stars (Transition Phase) (2026), Purple Duchess (2026), and The Light That Never Goes Out (2026), followed by a Q&A.

The art center also said the event will include a toast marking the completion of its Helen Frankenthaler Climate Initiative Grant. Admission is $25 for non-members.

KinoSaito is a nonprofit art center founded in 2018 and dedicated to the creation of abstract art. The center opened in 2021 after renovation of the former St. Patrick's Catholic School in Verplanck.
