The Opening Weekend will also feature two presenters, one each day, to discuss women and civilians during the Civil War. Saturday’s presentation, “Women and Children of the Civil War, from Patriotism to Combat,” will be led by Brian D. Caplan, Esq. and will feature over 60 period photographic images. Caplan has been a serious collector of Civil War era memorabilia for over 30 years and items from his collection are prominent in the Lincoln Depot Museum exhibits. Parts of his collection have also been exhibited at Brandeis University and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

On Sunday, the presenter will be Juanita Leisch, a 19th Century clothing expert and scholar and author of Who Wore What: Woman’s Clothes 1861-1865 and Introduction to Civil War Civilians. Ms. Leisch will discuss “Civil War Civilians” and feature a number of items from her collection.

New Items on Display for 2016

The Lincoln Depot exhibit: “New York and Abraham Lincoln: The Indispensable Relationship,” will include more than 60 new artifacts. Many rare original photographs have been added throughout the exhibits and additional artifacts have been included as well. The “Slavery and Abolition in New York” exhibit, for example, now includes a rare slave identification tag and broadside, new Wide Awake and campaign items have been added and military unit ribbons related to the region will be on display. Almost every exhibit will feature new artifacts, some very rare.

Perhaps the most exciting new acquisition by the museum has local and NY State significance. On display in the “Lincoln’s Funeral in New York” exhibit will be an original New York Hudson River Railroad Timetable of the April 25, 1865 trip from NYC to Albany and showing the only Westchester stop in Peekskill.
