Low Lead Levels in Hen Hud Schools' Drinking Water: Officials

In light of recent reports of lead in school district water sources, the Hendrick Hudson School District recently had its water tested for lead and determined that the district’s water is well below the EPA’s “action level.”

“Although water testing is not required in schools, we felt it would be prudent to have our water checked,” said Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter in a written statement.

The district’s Director of Facilities, Anthony Merlini, oversaw sampling at all six districts buildings, and samples were sent to Yorktown Medical Laboratory for analysis. Water samples were taken from water fountains, kitchen sinks and faculty rooms throughout the district.

In its report, Yorktown Medical Laboratory determined that all samples fell well below the lead concentration action level of 15ppb (parts per billion). In fact, the highest result of the water tested was 2.5 ppb, and the majority of samples tested fell below 1 ppb.

“Although there is no cause for concern about water within our district, we take the safety of our students and staff very seriously and plan to retest the water either this summer or early in the fall,” said Hochreiter.
