Macbeth Performed at Hendrick Hudson
Hudson Valley Shakespeare Touring Company brings classic play to 11th graders

The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, founded in 1987, makes its summer performance home under a festive, white tent on the grounds of Boscobel House and Gardens, in Garrison, N.Y., with a business office on Main Street in nearby, historic Cold Spring. The Festival is widely known for its theater-in-the-round performances of classic Shakespeare plays as well as other dramatic fare. The tented outdoor venue allows the company to make good use of the splendid scenery, with stage design kept to a minimum.
Each year a Touring Production makes the rounds, and this year’s production of Macbeth came to Hendrick Hudson High School on April 10. The 5-person cast performed an 80-minute show for students at Hen Hud. English teacher Corinne Rogulski explained how this production fits into the English 11 curriculum as a whole: “This performance allowed us to integrate a truly enriching, entertaining, meaningful, and memorable experience into our Shakespeare units. The skillfully performed play, followed by a Q & A session with the actors, encouraged students to discuss their observations and synthesize their experience of watching the story enacted on the stage with that of reading the text in class.”
The HVSF Touring Production of Macbeth will visit a total of 30 venues this spring, with an estimated audience reach of more than 14,000.
