Map Shows Top Hudson Valley Communities for Ashley Madison Cheaters

Personal data from the hack of Ashley Madison, a site for affair-seekers, continues to leak. And more information is becoming available and accessible to the public online.

And now Westchester, Rockland and Putnam County communities have found themselves in the crosshairs of that publicized information.

One Reddit data collection identified New York as seventh highest on the list of states with the most unfaithful husbands and wives in the country.

And another data collection has identified the numbers of users in each county, and each state in the United States, putting those towns on a map called “Malfideleco,” which means “infidelity” in the Esperanto language.

In the Hudson Valley, the five leading communities with the highest number of listed users of the Ashley Madison site are:

1. Yonkers - 9,720
2. Mount Vernon - 8,856
3. White Plains - 7,575
4. Harrison - 5,007
5. New Rochelle - 4,097

Tecnilógica, a Madrid-based digital agency, created the world map that shows the distribution of Ashley Madison users around the world without identifying names. See the map below.

On the Reddit user list, Alabama was first, followed by Colorado, the District of Columbia, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Is this list plausible? Well, first off, it does not include data for some major towns in the region, including Pelham. And out on Long Island, for example, the town with the most users is listed as “Huntington Beach” with 15,077 accounts. There is no Huntington Beach on Long Island. If it is referring to Huntington, we find that number very hard to believe in a town of less than 20,000 people.

The map also analyzed the composition of Ashley Madison users in terms of gender balance. In virtually every single town in the three counties, more than 80 percent of the users are men.

In a 2014 report, Psychology Today magazine said more than 90 percent of Americans believe infidelity is unacceptable, yet 30 to 40 percent of the people engage in it. “Infidelity is associated with adverse outcomes such as depression, domestic violence, divorce, even homicide,” according to the report.

The revelations go back more than a month, when a group of hackers called The Impact Team broke into Ashley Madison’s data, obtaining names and personal information — credit card info, sexual habits, likes and desires and such.

Some have targeted the hackers and the company, looking to punish them both for the data breach. The Canadian government, where Ashley Madison is located, said it is investigating two suicides possibly related to the hack, and some attorneys have filed a $578 million class action lawsuit against the company.

Ashley Madison is offering a $500,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the people involved in the hack.
