Midday Fire Displaces Tenants On Washington Street

Firefighters from surrounding communities helped the Peekskill Fire Department.

PEEKSKILL, NY — A midday fire at 244 Washington St. brought Peekskill firefighters out as well as volunteers from surrounding communities including Buchanan, Verplanck, Montrose, Yorktown and Croton-on-Hudson.

Red Cross volunteers have been called in to meet with the affected tenants, 17 people in seven families.

Firefighters not only rescued people but pets, according to one tenant.
