Mr. and Mrs. Schmitt: Life-long Peekskill Residents

Both were volunteers in the community.

Cecilia ‘Marge’ Schmitt, 91, a life-long resident of Peekskill, died Aug. 20, 2014. Her husband Richard A. ‘Dick’ Schmitt, 93, also a Peekskill native, passed away Aug. 22.

Mr. and Mrs. Schmitt were married May 15, 1943.

Mrs. Schmitt was born on March 1, 1923, to Albert & Cecilia H. (nee Heilbrunn) Krass. She worked for 25 years as a teachers aide in the Peekskill School District, until retiring.

Mr. Schmitt was born on July 26, 1921, to Andrew & Lorenza (nee Manning) Schmitt.

He served in the United States Army from 1942-1946. He worked as a salesman at Sears & Roebuck for many years until retiring.

Both were active in the community. She was a longtime member of the Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corp; he served with the Cortlandt Hook & Ladder Co. 1, where he was a life-member.

They are survived by their 3 sons and 2 daughters: Richard (Kathleen) Schmitt Jr., Edward (Jean Long) Schmitt, Kevin (Barbara) Schmitt, Onnie (Peter) Brown and Lisa Marie (Ronnie) Tompkins; and also 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
