New Cafeteria Debuts at Peekskill High School
Community invited to official opening before school board meeting Sept. 25.

The following report is based on a press release issued by the Peekskill City School District.
Sept. 6, the first day of school, was also the first opportunity for students and faculty to see the new cafeteria that was constructed during the summer at Peekskill High School.
School district administrators joined students and new high school Principal Frederick Hutchinson to cut a ribbon symbolically opening the cafeteria doors to lunchtime traffic.

Because some equipment is still awaiting installation, a cold lunch of sandwiches and fruit was served, but overall students said they were very pleased with the new look of their eating place.
“It’s a real improvement,” junior Nicole Troche said.

James Willis, superintendent of schools, and Gregory Sullivan, assistant superintendent for business, joined students for lunch at one of the cafeteria’s brand-new oval tables. Outside seating on a newly renovated paved patio is planned.
The official opening of the completed cafeteria will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, when the Board of Education will welcome the community to the new space and hold its next meeting in the completed facility.
The cafeteria was the major project of more than $3 million in capital improvements carried out in district schools this summer. The projects were funded by a bond issue approved by district voters in May 2011.
