PCSD Welcomes Dr. Rochelle Mitlak as Director of Literacy
Dr. Mitlak will work primarily in the elementary school buildings this year to enhance reading and writing instruction.
The Peekskill City School District welcomes Dr. Rochelle Mitlak as the District’s new Director of Literacy. Dr. Mitlak will work primarily in the elementary school buildings this year with students, teachers, and administrators to enhance reading and writing instruction for all.
Dr. Mitlak has a rich background in a variety of educational settings. She entered the field almost 30 years ago and has acted as a researcher, a pre-K teacher, an elementary classroom teacher, a reading specialist K-12, and an assistant professor in schools of education serving pre-service and in-service undergraduate and graduate students. Most recently, Dr. Mitlak served as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Hastings-on-Hudson School District. Her passion for literacy brought her to join the Peekskill City School District team and she looks forward to supporting all learners in their literacy development.
Dr. Mitlak holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Vassar College, a Master’s of Education degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a doctoral degree in Reading, Language, and Cognition from Hofstra University. Additionally, Dr. Mitlak also holds School Building and School District Leadership certifications from SUNY Stonybrook.
