Peekskill Man Runs 5K at Yankee Stadium

Contributions can still be made on behalf of Patrick Fitzgerald, who was the youngest person to be diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Local Peekskill resident and cancer survivor Patrick Fitzgerald ran the 9th Annual Damon Runyon 5K at Yankee Stadium. Fitzgerald was the youngest person to be diagnosed with testicular cancer, which was actually recorded in the medical books. He ran the course in top speed to generate overall awareness in addition to running for his mom, a breast cancer survivor.

Fully 100 percent of the funds generated by Fitzgerald, now 29, and the thousands of other participants will directly support innovative cancer research by brilliant, early career scientists through The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. Contributions can still be made on behalf of Fitzgerald through Aug. 11, 2017 at www.runyon5k.org or on his personal page.

The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation is behind some of the most innovative cancer research findings, such as the link between smoking and cancer and curing a solid tumor with chemotherapy. Over the last 70 years, the Foundation has invested over $327 million and funded nearly 3,600 young scientists, including 12 Nobel Prize winners.
