Peekskill Middle School's 3rd Annual "Men's Night" a Venue for Bonding

PKMS' Men's Night took place on Nov. 23 for students and their male role models. The theme was, "Strong Men Build Stronger Character."

It was standing room only in the Peekskill Middle School cafeteria last week when the school hosted its Third Annual Men’s Night event for students and their male role models. This year’s theme, “Strong Men Build Stronger Character,” was embraced by more than 200 attendees who came to participate in a special night of bonding activities.

“This evening is really special,” said Peekskill Middle School Principal Jamal Lewis. “This is a fantastic night of activities and we couldn’t have done it without Mr. Andrew Kane. This is his show. He’s done everything to make sure the event is orchestrated well and this turnout is definitely a testament to his hard work, so thank you Mr. Kane.”

Andrew Kane, a teacher at PKMS, organized this year’s Men’s Night with the help of other volunteers from across the District. He says the evening is a collaborative effort, with many people helping to ensure the event runs smoothly, and specifically thanked Stephanie Dabbs of Oakside Elementary for her help in preparing the food for the night.

With all of the fun and food aside, Kane notes that the real purpose of the event is to encourage bonding between middle school students and their role models.

“Kids these days have so much going on with school, activities and their technology, that they don’t really go out of their way to spend quality time with their role models,” Kane said. “And it gives our role models an opportunity to come out and support our students, and let them know that they are there if the kids need anything.”
