Why does your mom rock?

cleardot.gifI would like to nominate my mother Joan King of Peekskill, NY because she is the true definition of a super woman.
My mother was the child of a single mom on welfare who worked her way to the top. She now owns 3 homes of her own and loves to give back and help others as much as she can.

My mom, Joan is the CEO of Little Kings & Queens Day Care and has been for the past 22 years. Little Kings and Queens Daycare has 3 locations 2 in Peekskill and 1 in Cortlandt Manor.

It was getting to know families through the daycare center that led Joan to become a foster mother. In 2004 Joan decided to open her home to one of the children who attended her daycare and in 2010 she officially became a foster parent in Westchester County. Joan has been a foster mother to children from 5 different families in this short time. Joan has truly woven her dedication to family and service into every aspect of her life.

Alongside her husband Joan is the owner of King Shell Service Station in Ossining and Tarrytown.

Joan has been with her high school sweetheart (my dad) since 1976. They married in 1986 and have five children by birth, three grandsons, three adopted children and recently opened their home to three new foster children. All of Joan’s daughters have completed college and are making a mark for themselves in this world. (one is the owner of a hair salon in Peekskill, one is a fashion buyer for a major retail store, and one is a social worker). One of Joan’s sons is a mechanic at the family business and the other son is an incoming freshmen and basketball player for the University of Maine.

Alongside her husband Joan is the owner of King Shell Service Station in Ossining and Tarrytown.

In 2008 Joan founded The Underground, which is a nonprofit organization to uplift and empower teenage girls.

Joan finds joy in serving the community which led her to join The Order of the Eastern star, a fraternal organization whose members work together for the good of those less fortunate.

I see my mom work tirelessly everyday to make her dreams reality all while helping others fulfill their dreams as well. My mom truly rocks and is a deserving nominee of this recognition.
