Peekskill Names February "Joanne Clark Month" in Honor of PHS Sr. Office Assistant

Every February, the City of Peekskill celebrates Black History Month by honoring outstanding African American members of the community for their personal and/or professional achievements, civic contributions, and general good deeds that have favorably impacted local citizens. This year, Peekskill High School’s Senior Office Assistant, Ms. Joanne Clark was recognized by the City and a Proclamation was written in her honor, dedicating the entire month of February as “Joanne Clark Month” in the City of Peekskill.

Clark, who has been working for the high school for over 13 years, was nominated for the honor by Peekskill High School Principal Dr. Cassandra Hyacinthe. Hyacinthe, who submitted her letter of recommendation “with great enthusiasm and respect” noted that Ms. Clark “epitomizes the caring environment and focus on excellence” that is fostered in the day to day interactions and programs at PHS.

“It is an honor and heartwarming to be nominated by my friends and coworkers for this Proclamation from Peekskill City Hall,” Clark said. “It was such a nice surprise to have the month of February - Black History Month - dedicated to me here in the City of Peekskill. I thank the City and Dr. Hyacinthe for considering me for this privilege.”

Dr. Hyacinthe added to her reasons for nominating Ms. Clark by also recognizing the long hours Ms. Clark puts in at work and the “harmonious” relationship she has with students, staff and parents.

“It is a pleasure working at PHS with the wonderful group of teachers and staff,” Clark said. “Everyone is always willing to help out when needed. I have made some lifelong friends with the people here. I love being with all the children too. I get to watch them come in as young ninth graders and see them grow into mature young adults ready to graduate and enter the world.”
