Peekskill Opens Cooling Centers In Advance Of Heat Wave

The National Weather Service has predicted that temperatures are expected to be 6 to 12 degrees hotter than average for the end of July.​

PEEKSKILL, NY — With potentially dangerous heat and humidity coming to the Hudson Valley, the city of Peekskill has activated its cooling center policy through Friday.

The Neighborhood Center dining room, 4 Nelson Ave., will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. There will be free WiFi for anyone seeking an air-conditioned environment.

Officials said The Field Library, 4 Nelson Ave., will be open during normal hours. The library is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

Personnel from the city Office of Emergency Management will be checking that the senior apartment building managers are also taking appropriate measures during the heat wave.

The National Weather Service has predicted that temperatures will soar Thursday through Saturday and has already issued a heat advisory as temperatures are expected to be 6 to 12 degrees hotter than average for the end of July.
