Peekskill Students to Attend Play Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Peekskill students will attend 'I Have A Dream' at Paramount Hudson Valley Theater on February 6.

From Paramount Hudson Valley Theater: Nearly 2000 students from the Peekskill High School and Middle School will attend I Have A Dream a play that explores the life and times of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other Civil Rights Leaders on Feb. 6 to honor Black History Month. The play explores critical issues so relevant in the current political environment and is presented by Paramount Hudson Valley Arts. Paramount Hudson Valley Arts is the resident non-profit in the historic Paramount Theater in downtown Peekskill.

The phenomenal impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is explored in this exhilarating dramatization of the life and times of one of the most influential and charismatic leaders of the American Century. Inspired by the arrest of Rosa Parks, Dr. King put his philosophy of nonviolent protest to work. He is recognized today as one of the most dominant forces in the Civil Rights Movement during its decade of greatest achievement. Dr. King โ€˜s legendary I Have A Dream speech, delivered as part of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963, is widely regarded as one of the greatest speeches and pieces of rhetoric in history.

The play beautifully captures the essence and strife of these incredible leaders who sacrificed so much. Audiences are transported as King prepares to deliver his iconic speech, which changed history. Today, more than fifty years later, the four words โ€œI have a dreamโ€ have become symbolic for Dr. Kingโ€™s commitment to freedom, social justice and nonviolence inspiring activists around the globe.

I Have A Dream is part of the Paramount Hudson Valley Arts Family Friendly play series sponsored by Entergy. The seriesโ€™ goal is to bring affordable and relevant programming to the Hudson Valley.

The entire Peekskill High School will attend a 9:30 performance and the entire Peekskill Middle School will attend a 12:30 performance.
