Peekskill Students Perform at Paramount in “Dare to Dream” Concert with Hip Hop Violinist, Svet

The event, a fundraiser hosted by Emerald Peak Rehab Center of Peekskill, raised almost $1,000 for PCSD's Performing Arts Department.

On Tuesday, May 30, students from the Peekskill City School District had the exciting opportunity to perform on the stage of Peekskill’s Paramount Theater as they took part in the “Dare to Dream” concert with world famous hip-hop violinist Svet, from NBC’s hit television show, America’s Got Talent.

The event was hosted by the Emerald Peek Rehabilitation Center in Peekskill as a fundraiser for the Peekskill Performing Arts Department and was successful in raising almost $1,000.

The show began with a performance from Peekskill High School’s a capella group, the City Singers, who were led by PHS Choral Director Larry Del Casale. Soon after, students from Oakside Elementary’s Stings program performed solo under the direction of PCSD Music Teacher Cynthia Renyolds, before Svet came out on stage to join them in a rendition of, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”

Throughout the night, Svet played popular songs that kept the audience moving. He even concluded the evening with a fun, video game themed mash-up. In between performances, Svet shared personal stories and advice with students and audience members, as well as a short video about his battle with cancer.

Prior to the event, Svet visited Oakside Elementary School to meet the students and play for them on his violin. To see a video of Svet performing for our Oakside children, click here.
