Peekskill's Barbara Rivero Receives Overcoming the Odds Award
Rivero returned to Peekskill High School this year after attending a hospital based school for nearly 8 years due to health issues.

Congratulations to Peekskill High School student Barbara Rivero, who recently received Student Advocacy’s Overcoming the Odds Award and a $3,500 scholarship, which were presented to her at the organization’s 23rd Annual Overcoming the Odds Awards Dinner on May 10.
Rivero was welcomed back to Peekskill High School this year after attending a hospital based school for nearly 8 years due to health issues. She was nominated for the award by Peekskill High School’s Mr. Reid Olmstead due her continued resiliency and impressive academic achievements during this time. Not only has Rivero been able to achieve High Honor Roll status at PHS, she has also earned Regents credits as well.
Ms. Rivero was joined at the ceremony her mother, her Occupational Therapist Ms. Sara Simone and Mr. Reid Olmstead. There, Rivero showed an acceptance video she created, which received a teary standing ovation from a sold-out room.
