Police ID Woman Who Drowned In The Hudson River Oct. 18

She was a Verplanck resident.

VERPLANCK, NY — Police have identified the woman who drowned after her vehicle became submerged in the Hudson River Friday off Verplanck. Members of the Westchester County Police Marine Unit and the Yorktown Heights Fire Department dive team recovered her body.

Tiffany Kingwood, 37, was a resident of Westchester Avenue in Verplanck.

Based on eyewitness accounts and subsequent investigation, her death is an apparent suicide, police said.

The vehicle entered the river from a boat ramp in a Town of Cortlandt park off Riverview Avenue.

Westchester County police went there 12:45 p.m. after receiving reports that someone had driven into the river. Patrol, Marine Unit and Aviation Unit officers searched for the vehicle with assistance from the New York State Police and the Verplanck, Montrose and Croton-on-Hudson fire departments, officials said.

The vehicle had drifted from where it initially entered the water and was located nearby in about 10 feet of water. Dive team members removed the woman's body.
