Puglisi's Proposed 2017 Cortlandt Budget Marks 26 Years of Tax Control

This spending plan holds property tax rate increases to 2 percent or less.

CORTLANDT, NY — The draft spending plan released this week by Supervisor Linda Puglisi holds the tax rate increase to 2 percent or less across town.

Residents of the unincorporated portion of Cortlandt — about 75 percent of the town — would see their property taxes rise by 2 percent, an additional $30.75 on the average assessed property.

As for the villages: the budget proposes a property tax increase of 1 percent in Croton-on-Hudson and 1.3 percent in Buchanan.

Puglisi pointed out in her preliminary budget notes that the town tax is 12 percent of a home's property tax bill, the rest going to the school district, the county and the fire, sewer or water districts in which a home is located.

She also pointed out that over 26 years, the highest tax rate increase was 2.8 percent and for 10 years there was no tax rate increase at all.

"Over the years we have had a voluntary and real tax cap in the town of Cortlandt that has benefitted all our property owners both residential and business owners," she said.
