Reusing Indian Point Property: Topic For Task Force Thursday

Task Force Continues Work with Local Governments to Address Employment and Property Tax Impacts; Monitor Compliance with Closure Agreement

CORTLANDT, NY โ€” A New York State Indian Point Closure Task Force meeting will be held on Thursday in the main meeting room at Cortlandt Town Hall. Its Indian Point Reuse Study is expected to be released.

At its last meeting, held on Dec. 19, the Task Force discussed and identified initiatives to help the local community prepare for the facility to cease power generation operations and shut down by 2021, reviewed initial findings of its independent consultant on Indian Point site reuse and reutilization options, reviewed the NYISO Generator Deactivation Assessment for Indian Point, and continued discussions with local labor unions on employee support services, according to James Denn of the New York State Department of Public Service.

The public is welcome to observe the working meetings of either of the Indian Point Closure task forces โ€” this one convened by the state and another created by local officials and stakeholders.

However, public comments during the meeting will not be accepted, said Cortlandt Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi.

Some residents said they plan to attend anyway to "bear witness" to their concern that the Reuse Study is useless if it doesn't address the natural gas pipeline that runs near the plant, said pipeline opponent Robert May in a press release. The pipeline was recently enlarged under the controversial AIM project.

The next Town of Cortlandt Community Indian Point Task Force will be held at 7 p.m. May 24 at Cortlandt Town Hall.
