"Sailor Pride" Drops Anchor at Frank G. Lindsey
School adopts a new mascot, reflecting district's K-12 philosophy

“Sailor Pride” is all the rage at the Frank G. Lindsey School. On Friday October 10, the entire building celebrated its arrival with a festive school-wide assembly that featured music, mascots, cheerleading, live music, and plenty of nautical themes.
For months the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) committee has been working on implementing what is part of the Hendrick Hudson School District’s Strategic Plan – the presence of a single logo and single mascot for all of the Hen Hud schools. Since Frank G. Lindsey had long been the home of the Lindsey Lion mascot, the transition from Lion to Sailor required a lot of thought and careful planning.
“This is an important step for our district and for our young children to help identify themselves as part of the greater Hendrick Hudson School District and Community,” the PBIS team said in a statement.

The committee began meeting early in 2014, not only discussing how to present the transition from Lions to Sailors, but also writing lyrics for a new school song and brainstorming how to make the event as much fun as possible.
The outside of the school was decked in blue and white streamers, with banners and signs galore. Inside, a pep-rally theme prevailed. Dozens of Hendrick Hudson High School students—band members, cheerleaders, and other athletic team members—also participated in the assembly. In addition to Frank G, Lindsey Principal Donna Torrisi and the official emcees—teachers Sabrina Pereira and Cynthia Neff—High School Principal James Mackin, Director of K-12 Physical Education, Health, Athletics Thomas Baker, and Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter were also on hand. Teachers wore bright blue t-shirts and sailor hats.

“Big Henry,” the impressive Hen Hud Sailor mascot, made an appearance along with the Hen Hud cheerleaders, pep band, and athletes. The Elementary students sang both the new Sailor song and the Hendrick Hudson alma mater.
During the week following the assembly Sailor Pride decorating teams will continue to reinforce the new mascot and theme by adding anchors throughout the building. Bracelets, buttons and school spirit wear will also be offered.
