Save the Date: Salzburg Marionette Theater Performs in Westchester Nov. 7

It's the performance of Debussy's masterwork "The Toy Box" performed at Carnegie Hall to a rave review last year.

From Westchester Community College

The internationally acclaimed Salzburg Marionette Theater will perform performing Debussy’s masterwork The Toy Box on Friday, November 7 at 8:00 p.m. in the Academic Arts Theatre on the Valhalla campus at Westchester Community College.

Recreating this classic ballet, the Salzburg Marionette Theater will be teaming with the brilliant American pianist Orion Weiss and four puppeteers. This unique ensemble is offering The Toy Box along with either Debussy’s Children’s Corner Suite (with the puppets joining Orion on stage for Golliwog’s Cakewalk) or Schumann’s Papillons together with select works for solo piano.

The program was performed at Carnegie Hall last season to a rave review in The New York Times: “Debussy may have intended “The Toy Box” for children, but the score is sophisticated: subtle, often quiet and harmonically wandering, with Asian-inspired accents. The puppetry was wonderful, from Pulcinella’s spidery extending arms to the delicacy of the doll’s on-point ballet dance to the remarkably affecting sequence in which she nurses the soldier, his head lying gently in her lap.”

Tickets are $22 (general admission), $20 (for students/seniors), and $16 (children under 13). Tickets can either be purchased in advance by mailing with a check or by cash at the Box Office, a half hour before the scheduled performance time.
